Antalya
For many, Antalya is a typical all-inclusive resort. But behind the hotels there is a rich history, beautiful nature, waterfalls, stylish restaurants with gourmet cuisine, modern shopping centers and fascinating history.
The city itself was founded in 159 BC by Attalos II, one of the kings of the Kingdom of Pergamon. Legend has it that the King of Pergamon ordered his subjects to find the most beautiful place on earth. After a long search for a place, they found a beautiful bay and began to build. The city was named Attaleia after Attalos II, who founded it.
In 133 BC the city was conquered by the Roman Emperor Hadrian. The eastern part of the fortress wall was renovated by his order and a monumental gate preserved till our days was erected.
Antalya is the alleys of the Old City (Kaleici quarter), orange trees along the streets, long promenades, beautiful beaches, well-groomed parks and towering over the city of Mount Tahtali.
